Image made using coding with Processing program.

Creating an image from scratch using coding is a frustrating but very rewarding process. As someone who thoroughly enjoys problem solving, I found this task to be a fantastic introduction into how to use coding as an art form. It took several steps of trial and error to understand how a computer interprets lines of text and what sequence of code will get me the final product I desired.

I would absolutely use this program and activity for teaching how to create art in a digital format. Designing images in processing provides an augmentation to learning things like color theory and using overlapping layers. Taking it a step further and experimenting with interactive images can prove beneficial for website developing. Even at an introductory level, learning to make basic shapes allows students to pull from information learned in math class (since they often wonder when they will ever use math again in life).
